The short version: Abooks has no backend of its own, collects no analytics, shows no ads, and doesn't know who you are. It only talks to the servers you explicitly point it at.
Abooks ("the app") is a personal audiobook player that connects to servers you configure yourself — primarily your own self-hosted Plex Media Server, and optionally your own Calibre content server and the public Internet Archive / LibriVox catalogs. This policy explains what data the app handles, where it goes, and what it doesn't do.
Abooks does not collect, transmit, or have access to:
| Data | Where it's stored | Where it's sent |
|---|---|---|
| Plex sign-in token, client identifier, selected server/library | On your device only (local app storage) | Your own Plex server and plex.tv (Plex Inc.'s account/server-discovery API), to authenticate you and locate your server |
| Calibre server address and optional username/password | On your device only (local app storage) | Only your own Calibre server, to browse and download from your library |
| Search queries you type (title/author) | Not stored beyond the current session | Only to whichever source you're searching — your Plex server, archive.org, librivox.org, or your Calibre server |
| Downloaded audiobook files and cover art | On your device, in the standard shared "Audiobooks" folder (audio) and private app storage (cover art) | Sent to your paired Wear OS watch only over your local Wi-Fi network, when you tap "Send to Watch" — never over the internet |
| Listening progress, chapter position, download status | On your device only (local database) | Optionally synced to your own Plex server (for Plex-sourced books) and to your own watch over local Wi-Fi |
| Ebook text extracted for narration | Temporarily, on your device, during synthesis; cleared once each chapter's audio is generated | Never transmitted anywhere — text-to-speech runs entirely on-device using Android's built-in TTS engine |
Abooks connects only to services you enable:
plex.tv for sign-in and server discovery. Governed by Plex's own privacy policy for the plex.tv portion. No other third parties are involved. Abooks contains no advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs, or crash-reporting SDKs.
Everything the app stores lives on your own device (or your own servers) and is entirely under your control:
Abooks is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone. Since the app collects no personal information at all, this is inherent to how it's built rather than something enforced separately.
If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will change accordingly. Since the app has no user accounts, there's no mechanism (or need) to notify individual users directly — check back here for the current version.
